SHOCKING CCTV footage of a car being set on fire in High Crompton has been released by police.
The footage shows a man approaching a car on the driveway of a property on Greenway at 1.40am last Thursday. He appears to tamper with the car's filler cap before the vehicle ignites and the man flees onto Great Meadow.
The flames quickly engulfed the car and began to spread to the owner's house.
Firefighters were called by the family's neighbours but the car was destroyed and significant damage was sustained by the property.
Detective Constable Adam Frank, of GMP's Oldham borough, said: "The family are lucky that this did not set their house completely on fire.
"We would like to appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or saw anyone acting suspiciously to come forward."
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
