Young star takes dance trophy

A FIVE-year-old danced his way to victory as he claimed first place in the World Disco Freestyle Dance Championships - just six months after starting.

Adam Parry, of Royton, and a member of Jason Steele's School of Dance in Shaw, leapt past his challengers to win the novice under six freestyle category at the event held recently at Blackpool Winter Gardens.

He also finished third place the following day in the fast freestyle section which is a higher level of dance - a level he quickly moved onto after four months whilst working with dance teacher Jason Steele.

The dance school also saw twins Katie and Beth Wright win the adult champion pairs category and the school's premier champion Bella Molyneaux finish fifth in the under 12s.

Lauren McGuire and Lucy Owens came fifth in the under 16 intermediate pairs.

Victoria Parry, Adam's mother, said: "We're all over the moon, it is absolutely fantastic, I can't believe it, he's only been dancing for six months.

"We really have to give thanks to Jason because he has made it happen for Adam.

"He goes to the competitions and loves it and he trains three or four times a week.

"To get to where he is in six months and winning is such a fantastic achievement.

"The worlds championship at Blackpool Winter Gardens was a spectacular event and the standard of dancing was amazing from all who attended.

"Freestyle dancing is great for talented dance kids with loads of energy.

"The kids are like brothers and sister and all the mums look after all the kids it's like one big happy family, it's where they make friends for life.

"Jason Steele, the teacher, and his sidekick, Charlotte Dudley, are amazing with the kids and just know how to get the best from them."
