ORGANISERS are praying the sun shines on Sunday as they prepare for carnival fever in Alexandra Park.

Oldham Carnival Rootz Festival is renowned for being one of the highlights in the town's summer calendar.

The 2016 line-up proves that this year will be no different.

With the emphasis on family fun, there will be a host of stalls, attractions and fairground rides to keep young and old entertained.

The best home-grown musical and performing talent will be on the Rootz Stage from 11am to 6.30pm.

Nineteen performers from dance groups to rock bands and solo artists are lined up to thrill the crowds, not forgetting popular carnival comperes "Raz and Martin" who will be marking a decade of Rootz.

One of this year's biggest free attractions is a dry ice rink, which will be manned by qualified staff. Blades will be provided.

Also in the "Freebie Zone" will be Professor Baubles, Rumple the Clown, Circus Whiz and Punch and Judy.

Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home is organising a fun dog show to find the best tail wagger, best stray and best male, among other accolades.

Up to 30 regional and national teams will battle it out for the coveted prize of UK Dance Troupe Champions and there will be performances from Act One Theatre Group.

All the fun of the traditional fair will be on offer thanks to rides, inflatables and game stalls provided by Furness Fun Fairs and John Silcock.

A selection of thrill-seeking rides is yet be announced.

If you fancy escaping the hustle and bustle of the main field, the Mutual Model Boat Society will be dropping anchor in the boating lake.

There will be around 20 model boats on display.

There will also be lots of crafts and goodies to buy from a range of charity, community and commercial stalls and a fantastic array of delicious and exotic food outlets including Indian, Caribbean and English.
