THEY'RE intended to scare - but some colourful characters proved fundraising heroes instead.
Delph's Scarecrow Trail raised £750, the most yet, which will go towards the upkeep of Delph Library and Chapel Gardens.
The theme for this year's event focused on animal characters found in the world of drama, music and literature.
And the winners have been announced with the Old Bell Inn Restaurant once again voted the People's Favourite Scarecrow with their Owl and the Pussycat design. Jill Davis and the Methodists with their Toto and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz came second and were awarded the DCA Artistic and Creative award.
In the prize draw, the first prize of a meal at The Old Bell Inn Restaurant was won by Molly Hirst and second prize of two tickets for Saddleworth Players 2016/17 season was won by Kath Butterworth.
A full prize list can be seen in Delph Co-op and the Post Office for others who won prizes from Shear Perfection, the Bay Leaf, the White Swan in Delph as well as three prizes of books.
The organisers have sent their thanks to all who took part.
