POLICE have today appealed for help with investigations after a man was left with serious head injuries following an assault in a shop in Chadderton.

Shortly after 11am on Friday, officers were called to Bargain Spot in Stanley Road to reports of an assault.

They found a man who was then taken to hospital with a serious head injury and remains in a stable condition.

He had entered the shop and soon became involved in an altercation and attacked a man already in the shop.

Two further men came into the shop shortly after and assaulted the original attacker with an unknown weapon before fleeing the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Downey, of GMP's Oldham Division, said: "We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the attack or the offenders fleeing the shop and can help us establish the cause of the original altercation and who is responsible.

"It occurred at a busy time of day, and we know it attracted the attention of people in the area.

"I would like to assure our community that local officers will be spending time around the Stanley Road area speaking to residents and offering reassurance.

"If anyone believes they may have information that will assist this investigation please contact police."

Anyone with information relating to the incident should call 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
