RADCLYFFE School pupils met with Oldham's Labour MP Jim McMahon during a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
They visited both the the House of Lords and Commons to find out more about about how Parliament works, including the Queen's role in the state opening of Parliament, who sits where, how and why people become lords and how laws are made.
They also took part in a debating workshop before quizzing Oldham West and Royton MP Jim McMahon on his work.
The 16 pupils who took part are members of the British Values team at the Chadderton secondary.
The team has been set up to help promote British values - including democracy and the rule of law - which schools are now required to do by the government.
Katie Parkinson, Radclyffe's values and citizenship co-ordinator, said: "The visit was a great experience for all the students, and they learned a great deal about how Parliament works.
"The workshop showed them how strong debate can change opinions and we were very grateful to Jim McMahon for taking time to speak to the students."
