Help choose option for baths stones placing

RESIDENTS are being given a say on where stonework removed during the demolition of Royton Baths should have its final resting place.

A public consultation is taking place at Royton Library until Friday, June 17.

There are three suggested sites for the historic stones, which became the subject of controversy, forcing a halt in the demolition of the sports centre building last year when it was discovered a requirement to protect the frontage was missing from the planning application.

It is proposed the former entrance archway and "Public Bath" carvings, which are more than 100 years old, are featured in landscaped planting either outside the Health and Wellbeing Centre, in public space between there and the new leisure centre or near the entrance of the facility off Park Street.

The health centre option involves the crest part of the stonework being laid in front on the "Public Bath" stones.

The proposal for public space between the two buildings would see the crest mounted between the "Public Bath" carvings and outside the leisure centre's main entrance.

Artist impressions are on display at the library, where the public can vote for their favourite option.
