A NEW games area, providing enhanced sporting facilities at Coalshaw Green Park, Chadderton, will be officially opened on Sunday.
More than £100,000 has been invested into upgrading the facility, which has arrived from the Greater Manchester High Sheriff Police Trust's "Create a Greater Manchester" grant, Chadderton District Executive and Section 106 capital funding.
Footballers and basketball players can now play their sports on a slick new surface bounded by a heavy-duty mesh fence.
New tennis and netball courts with fencing and gates have also been created.
All this can be enjoyed for free from Sunday.
The opening is on the same day the national Big Lunch takes place - an occasion where communities have their lunch together on a fun-filled day of activities. It's a free afternoon in the park for fun and games - from 1pm to 3pm.
Councillor Barbara Brownridge said: "The old area was looking its age and was in need of refurbishment and an upgrade."
Last year, a new skate park was developed at the top end of Coalshaw Green Park, providing a high-quality draw for wheeled sports enthusiasts of all ages.
The park also contains lush crown green bowling greens, a full-size grassed football pitch, lovely ornamental gardens, a cafe and toilets.
