WORLD boxing champ Anthony Crolla was the inspiration for students competing in the Greater Manchester Colleges Group Games.

Hosted by Hopwood Hall College - who won the event for the second year running - students competed across five areas of fitness, coaching, Crossfit, multi-sports and current affairs in sport at the Middleton Campus.

The Chadderton-based boxer, a former student, handed out the prizes.

Fantastic

The judging panel was made up of people from various sport-related organisations including Rochdale Hornets, Amaven and Greater Sport Manchester.

Sport4real and Crossfit Oldham helped fund the event by sponsoring it.

Salford City College came second and Trafford College took third place.

Centre director for sport and public services, Terry Morley, said: "This was a fantastic event and even more rewarding winning it again for the second year.

"The level of ability and fitness was amazing.

"The learners from the colleges were an absolute credit to their tutors and did themselves proud.

Sportsmanship

"They were all smart, polite and most of all, displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout all the events.

"It is a real honour to watch this much talent coming through our doors.

"And of course, to see them begin to follow in the footsteps of some of our amazing ex-students, such as Anthony Crolla, was excellent."
