CREATIVITY and science will collide at Festival Oldham this May bank holiday.

This year's event is celebrating Oldham's rich scientific heritage to mark Manchester as the European City of Science 2016.

Bear witness to mind blowing shows, weird and wonderful creatures and earth shattering music. Discover the world of the Bubbleologist and be astonished by the resident astronauts. Try out an exciting experience and explore a galaxy of innovation at family art workshops.

The borough's free annual celebration of art and entertainment takes place this Saturday from 11am-4pm at various sites across the town centre and at Gallery Oldham.

Other highlights include fantastic shows from the London Science Museum's resident comedy team Punk Science with the 'Most Disgusting Show in the World' featuring revolting and gross experiments on the festival stage on High Street.

The Two Man One Man band are comical, cheeky and engaging, and as they are strolling round the town centre they'll be engaging with residents of all ages.

Mad Science performs spectacular science shows that will amaze and entertain. Watch a foam factory at work, discover Bernoulli's principle, make magic mud, alter sound waves and so much more.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and co-operatives, said: "Festival Oldham has become a fixture over the bank holiday weekend and this year promises to be a great event.

"This year we've gone for a scientific theme to coincide with Manchester being named as European City of Science and hopefully things will go with a bang

"We're offering something for everyone and hope residents will come along and enjoy the day."
