YOUNG business brains from Oldham Academy North won the best customer service award at the Young Enterprise Greater Manchester Final.

Eleven teams of 15 to 19-year-olds who have set up their own businesses took part in the event at Manchester Metropolitan University.

They had to set up trade stands, give presentations and answer questions about their companies and products.

The teams included Flow, from North Chadderton School, which sells covers to stop drinks being spiked, and Oldham Academy North’s Glassique, which makes hand-painted gifts. They both represented Oldham after coming first and second respectively in the borough’s Young Enterprise final in March.

The overall winner of the best business title at Greater Manchester final was Urban MCR, from Altrincham Boys Grammar School. The team produced a Manchester guide, as well as selling personalised canvases, mugs and cards.

Awards were also given for the best report, trade stand and customer service.

Abbie Lockitt, business and enterprise co-ordinator at Oldham Academy North, Royton, said: “Despite being up against some very tough competition and older pupils from sixth forms and grammar schools, Glassique was placed in the top five teams in the region and won the award for best customer service.

“The team’s performance on the day was outstanding and I am incredibly proud of what the pupils achieved.”

Glassique has been invited to give a presentation at the Asian Business Dinner, Eastern Pavilion, Westwood, on Monday, May 16.
