Conservative 2016 Election Statement - Three-point plan to tackle the issues that matter

THE local elections on 5th May are vitally important to where you live.

Your vote will decide what you want for your town and your village. Our three-point plan tackles the issues that we know matter most in our communities and they are:

More investment for roads and public transport.

Oldham has a shameful record on potholes and many residents across the borough want better more regular public transport.

We would look to create a ‘Pothole Bond’ making developers set-aside money for repairs to local roads and we would take the fight to transport bosses in Greater Manchester and Government to improve local services and keep rail and bus fares down.

Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in our communities.

The Police Budget has been protected, giving the Police the tools they need to fight crime. We must never let gangs of local youths go unchallenged and cause unrest.

With the Police, we would back them in taking a zero-tolerance approach.

We would seek community retribution through a payback scheme and help with deterrence measures by helping put in extra street lighting, CCTV and alley gating.

Cleaning up our streets by tackling fly tipping and litter.

Fly-tipping is now a major issue in the Borough.

We believe it is vital the council steps up to the challenge to address the menace. We would oppose any move to monthly bin collections by Labour or the Lib-Dems as this would make matters worse.

We would set a 72-hour deadline for fly tipping being reported to it being cleared. We would focus more resources on seeking prosecutions by joining up with neighbouring local councils in taking fly tippers to court.

Only the Conservatives will put you first and politics second.

We will work together and end the squabbling that stops things being done in Oldham.

We will act as a moderating balance between the other parties so we can get the best results for you.

So, if you want lower council tax, high-quality services and believe that good local government should cost less then please Vote Conservative.
