Dispute over ‘dangerous’ road persists

A WRANGLE over a “dangerous” road awaiting completion has carried on for the past 10 years.

The road in Bowling Green Close, Chadderton, is still yet to receive a final, second tarmac coat to be applied and has now deteriorated leaving trip hazards and weeds blooming through the cracks.

A dispute between Oldham Council and Holroy Homes has left the residents in limbo as the council will not adopt the road at the public’s expense until it has been completed and Holroy Homes are seemingly disinterested in the residents’ plight.

Carl Moutney, of Bowling Green Close, said: “After nearly over a decade of blame, it seems to me that Holroy are the ones who have just washed their hands of the situation.

“The fact they won’t even take your calls says it all.

“It is a shame that they treat their customers this way and I would not buy from them again.

“I believe the council should have ensured this was rectified by now.

“However, Holroy homes are totally disinterested and have sent letters in the past blaming the council but there is nothing off them for the last few years.

“It is extremely frustrating having lived here for nearly 10 years now.

“The road is dangerous with trip hazards and weeds blooming through the cracks.”

The council is trying to resolve the perennial problem and has said they are unhappy with the delay.

Helen Lockwood, executive director for economy, skills and neighbourhoods, told the Evening Chronicle: “The council has been working hard to resolve this issue and we are equally as frustrated and dissatisfied with the delay by Holroy Homes.

“There have been some legal issues for Holroy Homes to sort out and these have been resolved.

“The developer now needs to bring the roads to an adoptable standard.

“I would like to reassure residents of Bowling Green Close that we will continue to pursue the developer and ensure they complete the job.”

The Chronicle tried to get in touch with Holroy Homes but they were unavailable to comment.
