TRAVELLERS are being advised to check services before they leave home this weekend as work to improve transport will affect rail and Metrolink services.
Saturday and Sunday will see the second of five weekends of closures of stations between Manchester Victoria and Littleborough as engineers install new track. A bus replacement service will be in operation.
Sunday will also mark the end of the first stage of the Ordsall Chord project, which required the closure of Manchester Victoria on Sundays since January 24, in preparation of linking the station with Manchester Piccadilly for the first time. Both projects are part of Network Rail’s £1 billion investment in the rail network in the north.
Sunday will also see disruption to tram services as work continues in preparation for the new Metrolink Second City crossing.
Trams running on the Rochdale line will terminate at Central Park and a bus replacement service will be in operation. No trams will run on the Bury line or lines across the city centre. Bus replacements will be available.
Manchester United, Lancashire County Cricket Club and Sale Sharks all have home fixtures this weekend and anyone attending these or other events is advised to plan their journey in advance and allow extra time.
