Pothole problems cause bumpy ride

POTHOLES are making it difficult for people to reach their homes on the ‘worst maintained road in Greater Manchester’.

Potholes on Cinder Hill Lane in Chadderton have become so bad that residents are concerned their cars may become grounded.

A civil engineer at a meeting with residents described the road - which has been a problem for years - as ‘the worst maintained road in Manchester’.

Ian Crowther of Woodside Farm on the lane said: “We have had it for years. It has got to a stage where it’s a bit farcical. An engineer came down and said this was the worst maintained road in Greater Manchester, that’s how bad it is.

“We’re not getting anything from the council. If it carries on any worse then this I won’t be able to use the car and I will have to walk to my house.

“All we seem to get is that there is never any money to do the road surface, but the lack of action has made the road worse,” Ian added. “We feel we have hit a brick wall with it. I’d rather the council spend the money on maintaining the road then paying compensation.”

Oldham Council performed maintenance on the road at the end of October last year to remove major defects and says more work will be done when more money is available.
