BULLSEYE . . . Scott with Target Stockport Darts Academy coach Paul McDonagh
A POPULAR amateur darts player who once beat legend Phil “The Power” Taylor has beaten another pro.
Scott Needham (27) who has Down’s Syndrome, beat professional Michael Schmidt when he travelled with Target Stockport College Darts Academy to play the Bremen Premier League team in Germany over Easter.
The Oldhamer played “Scott’s rules” — he starts on 301 with no double finish and a bullseye wins the leg — and Schmidt played the standard 501. Scott beat Taylor last year using the same rules.
Scott’s dad Stuart (58) said: “All the crowd was cheering for Scott, even the German side. When he won, they went into uproar.”
Scott hit a bullseye to win the first leg but Schmidt managed to level before a second bullseye knocked him out of the tie.
“He was overjoyed and emotional, all the lads jumped on top of him,” added Stuart. “It shocked him to begin with, then the revelation he had won sunk in.”
He said: “Scott has shown that things can be achieved, you can get out there and do it if you set your mind to it.”
