MEDIEVAL kings and a celebrity footballer are set to descend on Crompton Moor next month – when filming begins for video game “Clash of Kings”.

More than 100 cast and crew from London-based Blink Productions, technical vehicles, catering buses and wardrobe trucks will be stationed on the moor from April 11-16 to shoot an advertisement for the empire building strategy game.

The epic scene to be filmed in the main quarry of the moor focuses on the “King”, believed to be a celebrity footballer from Manchester (currently injured), rousing his troops for battle.

Local councillors, Friends of Crompton Moor (FCM) and Oldham Countryside Service have been fully consulted and permissions to film granted, subject to conditions and adequate clean up afterwards. Undisclosed donations from Blink Productions have also been agreed for the Mayor’s Appeal and Friends of Crompton Moor.

Shaw councillor Howard Sykes said: “If the Friends of Crompton Moor are happy, then I’m happy. The filming is helping to put Crompton on the map and though there will be a bit of inconvenience, we’d rather they came than they didn’t.”
