Council leader’s delight over new homes projects

Work is set to begin on a £15million development of 135 new homes in Limehurst Village.

Council leader Councillor Jean Stretton visited the scheme, given planning permission in December, which will provide 66 houses on Rowan Tree Road and 69 off Whitebank Road.

The new homes are part of the “Vision for Limehurst Village”, a 10-year programme by Regenda supported by Oldham Council to improve the environment, housing, recreation and employment opportunities within the neighbourhood.

Councillor Jean Stretton, leader of Oldham Council, said: “I’m delighted work is set to start on these new homes as this is another milestone in the regeneration of Limehurst Village. As a ward councillor I know family homes are much needed in this area. Once they are finished they will provide modern new accommodation, giving new and existing residents who want to own their own homes the option to do so in Limehurst Village.

“An added bonus is that during construction, employment and training opportunities will be created, supporting our Get Oldham Working campaign, and local supply chains will receive a boost.

Work has also begun on 54 new homes at the former St Augustine’s school site. The development, which received planning permission last month, will feature a mixture of three and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached houses at the site on Grange Avenue.

Councillor Stretton attended the ground-breaking ceremony and welcomed the start of work on site.
