Nightclub to recreate glory days of the Castle
Date published: 25 March 2016
OLDHAM’S revamped Tokyo nightclub is to hold a reunion night for the iconic former Castle live music venue this weekend as it relaunches its Indie and RnB rooms.
The Tokyo Project, in Roscoe Street, reopened in December last year after a full facelift. The owner, Tokyo Industries, has pledged to restore many of the club’s most popular events.
The club’s Indie and RnB rooms relaunched last Saturday with DJ Bill Murray from the legendary Castle music venue, which closed nearly three years ago.
The 150 year old Castle, on Union Street, was once one of the North’s premier music venues, in which Oasis and Inspiral Carpets played some of their earliest gigs.
Tokyo’s was itself home to many of the Madchester Indie bands and provided a springboard for the Gallagher brothers and Inspirals.
A Castle Reunion party on Easter Sunday will recreate the excitement of the glory days.
Tokyo Industries managing director Aaron Mellor said: “People used to come to Oldham from miles around for its vibrant nightlife. We can’t promise return visits from Kasabian or Libertines, but there are some amazing acts around.
