MATHEMATICS proved a piece of pie, not cake, for students at North Chadderton School as they marked Pi Day.
Pi day celebrates the mathematical constant on March 14 every year - the numbers 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of the famous number.
Students and teachers spent the week taking part in maths activities involving the symbol - including a “pin the radius on the circle” competition; as well as designing the Pi Day mascot and tucking into pi decorated cupcakes.
They also had eyes on the pies during a raffle, which saw one lucky student win a year’s supply of Hollands Pies!
Chloe Walker, numeracy co-ordinator and event organiser, said: “We celebrate pi day every year and managed to raise more than £400 for Cancer Research UK through all our activities and raffle.”
