READY, set, go!.... Runners, including Chaddy the Owl, set off at Oldham’s Sport Relief Mile
KIND-HEARTED Oldhamers pushed themselves to the limit with sponsored bike rides, running races and endurance tests in a bid to raise money for SportRelief.
Pupils at Broadfield Primary School ran a mile around Alexandra Park on Friday while staff at Oldham’s Specsaver stores cycled 54 miles on exercise bikes - the distance from Oldham to Blackpool.
Oldham West and Royton MP Jim McMahon joined Hathershaw College’s fundraising appeal, which saw staff and pupils try out a variety of sporting challenges.
Pupils and staff at Oldham Sixth Form College also got into the spirit of Sport Relief, taking part in a basketball shootout, zumba classes and collectively attempting to cycle or row the width of the country (144 miles) from Liverpool to Hull.
On Sunday, dozens gathered at Radclyffe Athletics Centre on Hunt Lane, Chadderton, to take part in Oldham Community Leisure’s Sport Relief Mile.
Nationally, a record-breaking £55 million was raised through the appeal, which included sketches and sporting challenges on BBC1 and BBC2 throughout the weekend.
