SUPER teacher Steve Hill is up for his latest award — for adventure!.

The deputy head of St Joseph’s Primary School in Shaw has been shortlisted in the “Inspiring Others” category at the awards ceremony, which is in Glasgow today.

Mr Hill, who received an MBE from the Queen a year ago, has completed a series of annual hardcore challenges — from Climbing Mont Blanc to trekking through the rainforest of Borneo — to help his year six classes raise tens of thousands of pounds of charity.

His latest exploit, last year, was the strength-sapping North Pole marathon. This came on top of several smaller-scale events such as the gruelling Tough Mudder and Spartan obstacle courses.

The former North-West Primary School Teacher of the Year said: “I feel very honoured to have been shortlisted and also very humbled to see my name alongside some of the greats in British adventure.

“I enjoy an adventure and the more challenging the better. Over the years through my ‘Mr Hill’s Challenges’ I’ve undertaken some great adventures - climbing mountains, trekking through jungles and deserts and running marathons in some very remote and extreme locations. A big part of these is that they help us with our school fund-raising for local charities. Equally as important is being able to share my adventures with the children.”
