Vulnerable adult centre broken into

Raiders have broken into a centre used by vulnerable adults.
Grassroots, behind Marlborough Drive in Failsworth, was broken into on the last weekend of February.
Worker Sarah Lewis arrived at work at around 8am on Monday, February 29, and noticed the locks on the front door and an office door had been smashed.
In the process of looking for valuables the burglars also damaged some of the artwork created by the service users, but nothing of value was taken.
She said: “The gate was locked. They must have climbed over the fence, which is 8ft high.
“All the cupboards and drawers had been pulled out. They were clearly looking for something but there’s nothing here. Since then we have had a 24-hour alarm put in.”
Grassroots is an Adult Day Care Service which offers support to individuals with a range of physical and learning disabilities. The centre organises various activities, ranging from horticulture to arts and crafts.
Karl Dean, managing director of MioCare Group CIC, who run the facility, said: “This is heartless crime on a fantastic facility that helps adults with learning difficulties learn new skills, develop their independence in a warm social environment. They have caused a lot of damage that has created distress and upset among our staff and service users.”
Anyone with information should call the police on 101.
