Groovy, baby!

LONG hair, mini-skirts, flower power and bright prints were the order of the day when members of Chadderton Historical Society stepped backed in time.

Members recreated the swinging and psychedelic Sixties at their annual themed party at Chadderton FC.

Over 30 members attended and secretary Michael Lawson said: “We have covered most other historical periods over the years and last year we went right back to our roots with the Celts. We thought we’d come more a bit more up to date this year!”

There was a Sixties quiz as well as music from Elvis, Cliff Richard and the Beatles to Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis and Henry Mancini and his Orchestra - though not in person!

The food was made by treasurer Christine Dennis - and consisted of typically Sixties buffet food: sausages on sticks, silverskin onions and pineapple and cheese, all on sticks stuck into foil-covered potatoes!

“We also had small pork pies, scotch eggs, pizza, chicken legs and a simple salad. For dessert we went for trifle and, of course, Black Forest gateau,” said Michael.
