SAFETY message . . . Charlotte Rigby and William Cousins with PCSO Wayne Turley and the new banner at St Anne’s Lydgate.
A safety-conscious police community support officer has launched a banner campaign urging parents to think before they park carelessly.
Nine colourful banners - three each for schools in Saddleworth wards - warn: “Think before you park. You could endanger a child’s life’.
The idea, by PCSO Wayne Turley, has been greeted with approval by police, Greenfield and Grasscroft Residents’ Association and Oldham Council.
PCSO Turley said: “I saw a banner like this at schools in Tameside and thought it was great. It might only make one person think twice about stopping on the zig-zags — but that might save a child’s life.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the response.”
The first banner was unveiled at St Anne’s Primary School in Lydgate and they will be moved between schools in each ward every few weeks. A similar scheme has seen banners placed in schools across Oldham.
