100 TODAY: Elizabeth Armstrong
EATING well and keeping healthy has paid off for Elizabeth Armstrong, who turned 100 today.
The great-great-grandmother, who is now blind, was surrounded by loved ones in celebration at Alexandra Nursing Home in Queens Road, Glodwick.
Born in Salford, Elizabeth Austin moved to Whitefield when she married her late husband Bill Armstrong, with whom she had two daughters — Elaine Taylor (68) and Diane Gordon (72).
The couple had two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Humour
Elizabeth lived with her daughter Elaine before moving into the nursing home six years ago, after illness left her blind.
Elaine said: “I think it’s in the genes. Her grandmother lived to her late 90s. My mum has also never drunk, never smoked and always eats fruit and vegetables. She’s also got a great sense of humour.”
