Sex beast loses life sentence appeal
Date published: 25 February 2016
A monster who forced women to become his sex slaves during a decade-long campaign of torture and abuse has lost an appeal against his life sentence.
Iqbal Ali (34) of Oldham, singled out four vulnerable women for a series of degrading and horrific crimes involving sexual violence. They were tortured physically and psychologically and forced to satisfy his sexual demands.
Last June he was jailed for life at Manchester Crown Court after being convicted of 25 offences, including multiple rapes and assaults.
His case was back in court yesterday when his lawyers appealed the life term, arguing the sentence was not necessary for public protection. The appeal was rejected.
“This was a truly horrific case which called for a very long sentence,” said Mr Justice Singh.
“There were four victims. There were numerous offences committed over a long period. There was degradation, enslavement and violence. They could rightly be regarded as having had to endure torture.’
The court heard that Ali, of Broadway, Chadderton, had shown no remorse for his sick crimes and was seen as a significant risk of reoffending. As well as raping the women, he had been guilty of a string of violent attacks, including burning and scalding one of them. and using an imitation firearm to instil fear.
His life sentence upheld, he will serve a minimum of 16.5 years.
