TWO 6ft 2in men armed with a claw hammer attempted to rob a Co-op store in Failsworth — then got on a waiting moped ridden by a third man.
Police have released CCTV images of the men who struck at the Oldham Road store at around 7.30pm a week ago.
The raiders went straight to the till and pulled open the cigarette cover before being disturbed by a member of staff, who quickly ran out. The men fled the store empty-handed and into Robert Street to the waiting moped.
The first offender is 6ft 2in tall, slim and was dressed in dark clothing and Nike trainers with a white logo. He was wearing a motorcycle helmet and carried a claw hammer.
The second man, also 6ft 2in, was slim and wore dark clothing. A black balaclava covered his face and a hooded top was tight around his face.
Det Cons Mike Hayman said: “The images are not excellent quality, but the motorcycle helmet used by one of the men is quite distinctive. Someone might recognise it.
“We are also asking for anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 160216/1984 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
