CANCER boost . . . Daniel Poole, The Christie fundraising manager, receives the cheque from Mildred Taylor, the committee’s longest-serving member
CANCER sufferers have received a £20,000 boost from local fundraisers.
The Women’s Trust Fund Oldham and District Committee presented £20,000 to the Christie Charity, which supports Manchester’s world-famous cancer hospital and research centre.
Members raised the money from activities over last year — from coffee mornings and afternoon teas to supermarket collections and collection tins.
The Oldham committee of the Women’s Trust Fund was formed more than 50 years ago. The current total topped the £15,000 raised in 2014.
She said: “We are only a small committee with a few members and a lot of us are quite elderly so we can’t do things like sponsored runs. We tend to do small events but somehow we manage to raise a lot of money.”
