DOZENS of people have offered condolences to the family of Rex Shepherdson, who has died following a short illness.
A former Lees councillor, magistrate, builder and chairman of Lees band contest, Mr Shepherdson (89) played a huge role in his local communities as well as being a loving husband, father and grandfather.
His wife of 55 years, Beryl, said she is overwhelmed by the number of cards and well-wishers she has received since her husband’s death in the Royal Oldham Hospital last Wednesday.
“Everybody knew him,” said Beryl from the family home in Diggle. “He did a lot for the community and led a very full life. He was always busy doing things and always had a smile for everyone.
“I just can’t believe how many cards I have had and how many people have been in touch. I never expected it, it just shows how much he was thought of and how many people knew him.”
Mr Shepherdson was managing director of Wm Shepherdson and Sons Ltd and was involved in the construction of several well known buildings in Lees and many homes.
Mr Shepherdson also leaves three children, Jane, Rex and Wray, and five grandchildren.
