OLDHAM is set for a housing boost as plans for 86 new homes were approved at a planning meeting last night — with another 38 set to follow.
Application approvals were given for the former St Augustine’s School site in Werneth and vacant land in Chadderton. But an application for 34 more homes and four apartments in Sholver was deferred for further discussions.
The former site at St Augustine’s School in Grange Avenue will have 54 new houses on 1.7 hectares of land (bounded by Grange Avenue, Coniston Avenue, Heron Street and Chamber Road), left by the demolition of the former Catholic school premises in 2013.
The new estate will include 21 four-bedroom homes, 11 three-bedroom homes and 22 three-bedroom terraced or semi-detached houses. Each will have a private garden and most also a driveway or garage.
A total of 14 three-bedroom homes will also be built on the site of the former bus depot in Joshua Lane, Chadderton.
The site will feature semi-detached and terraced homes on land bounded by Rochdale Canal and a train line.
An application for 18 new homes at land off Hale Lane and Hughes Close in Failsworth was also given the green light. The project is for 14 four-bedroom houses and four three-bedroom homes, all three- floor properties next to the tram line.
The fourth application, for 34 houses and four apartments off Sholver Lane was due to continuing legal agreements with the developer, Domalo Nurseries.
