YOU can’t teach an old dog new tricks - but you can teach a group of older people the ukelele!
Uke lessons have struck several chords with members of the Oldham branch of the University of the Third Age. Uke lessons were such a popular request the organisation decided to set up a group at Waterhead Academy, taught by the school’s Glen Malowney.
“It’s only in its second week but they all seemed to enjoy it and I’m happy to help out,” said Glen, who has also been drafting in students from the school’s own ukulele group to help out.
Members range in age from 55 to 70 and over: “I think it’s great they’re learning new skills,” said Glen.
U3A branch chairman Jim Royales said it’s just one of the many pastimes the organisation offers.
“We’re very grateful to Waterhead Academy for hosting the ukulele group and finding us a tutor.”
