Donated £67,000 buys new kennels

ANIMAL rescue group Pennine Pen has opened new kennels after raising £67,000 through two years of fundraising activities.

The charity has revamped its Honeywell Lane premises to create custom-built kennels and outdoor exercise areas.

Manager Michael Waugh said: “The old kennels limited our ability to provide a safe haven for a growing number of abandoned dogs. The new kennels will provide a safe, clean environment.

“The refurbishment will allow us to potentially double the number of dogs in our care.”

Help has come from well-wishers and the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust, Support Adoption for Pets, Lush Charity Pot, the Marchig Trust and the Animal Defence Trust.

An opening afternoon will be on Sunday (noon-3pm), at the kennels. Visitors interested in the work can drop in to see the facilities.
