A NEW Oldham restaurant owner has vowed to dish up and carry on serving despite an attempted break-in only a week after opening.

Chef Anthony D’Alessandro’s CCTV camera caught a thug hurling a brick several times at the window of his new eaterie, The Grill at No 20, in Retiro Street, early on Saturday morning.

The culprit caused £200 worth of damage but didn’t manage to get inside the newly refurbished premises in the Independent Quarter which he runs with his wife, Carolina.

Anthony says the attempted break-in has shaken his family - but he won’t let the incident beat him.

“Yeah, what a great welcome to Oldham!” said Anthony (39) who has spent 18 years in the industry.

“But as far as I’m concerned people like this are in the minority. You just have to keep calm and carry on. I’ve had loads of support from local people. I previously worked at Marios in Yorkshire Street, so I know Oldham well.”
