ONE of Oldham town centre’s most popular watering holes will be transformed into a £1million “super-pub” if planners agree.

Plans will see Yorkshire Street’s Squire Knott pub knocked into the adjoining former nightclub and a beer garden built at the rear.

JD Wetherspoon, owners of the thriving Squire Knott, also wants to demolish part of the rear of the old club. The proposals will also see the Squire Knott completely refurbished.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “The projected cost is more than £1 million. If it gets the go-ahead we will agree a date and the pub will have to close for a time.

“The Squire Knott is extremely popular and we believe the work will give customers an even better pub.”

A decision will be made in the coming weeks.
