BREAKING NEWS - A SADDLEWORTH parish councillor who was convicted by a trial jury of downloading indecent pictures of naked young boys to his computer was told today that he has suffered "a public fall from grace."
Mike Buckley 68, was told by Judge Jonathan Foster QC, that for a man who had previously lived an exemplary and upstanding life, the loss of his good name was punishment enough.
He said, however, that the public were entitled to see that such offending was met with harsh sentencing by the courts.
Buckley, from Dobcross, has been ordered to take part in the Internet Sexual Offenders Treatment Programme which involves 35 two-hour sessions with extra work in between.
He will be subject to supervision by the Probation Service for two years and subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years.
In addition he will be on a strict 28-day curfew between 8am and 4pm starting next week, and he has been ordered to pay £2,000 prosecution costs.
