A DESPERATE mum is considering putting her children in care to end the hell of her family living in their “damp and disgusting” home.
Georgina France, who has three children and shares her home with her 47-year-old mum Janine, says her Contour Homes house is so riddled with damp it drips on her children while they sleep, has ruined electrical circuits and makes one carpet so wet socks can be wrung out after walking on it.
Georgina (24) of Seventh Avenue, Limeside, has contacted her landlord “30 to 40 times” in recent years but their only solution has been to offer her dehumidifiers. She says after a visit from one Contour Homes employee she was told to leave the windows open and the heating on.
She says mould has ruined so many of their possessions she had to rely on Key 103’s Mission Christmas Appeal to provide new toys for her children, Joshua (5), Ebie (3) and Evie (2).
“I feel guilty putting my kids to bed at night in damp bedding,” said tearful Georgina. “I feel like I’m failing as a mother. I hate to say it but I have considered putting them into care to end their suffering until this is all over.
“The smell is terrible. Telling me to leave the windows open and the heating on is ridiculous. All the kids toys and buggy have been ruined. It’s got into most of the wall sockets and the burglar alarm, which kept going off.
“We’re desperate — we can’t keep living like this. I just want this nightmare to end.”
Margaret Goddard, director of property at Contour Homes, said: “I’m sorry if Ms France is unhappy with the service she’s received from us. Our staff have inspected the property and we are working to resolve her complaint as a matter of urgency.”
