A CHADDERTON primary school has started the New Year with top marks from Ofsted.

Corpus Christi has been rated “outstanding” by inspectors, the first top rating for the Stanley Road school. It is also the first Oldham primary to be thus named following changes to the way schools are inspected last September.

Ofsted says that pupils of all abilities and backgrounds do “exceptionally well” at Corpus Christi.

They make “outstanding progress” to reach above-average standards by the time they leave.

Teachers have high-expectations of pupils and the inspectors add: “Every lesson counts. Teachers are relentless in their pursuit of ensuring that every pupil reaches their full potential. Teaching is never less than good and much is outstanding.”

Delighted head teacher Chris Hanson said: “In recent years the team has worked tirelessly to improve every area with the aim of providing our children with the best possible education and the chance to develop all aspects of their lives. They continue to do this on a daily basis.”
