Thieves, you’ve bin warned...

COMMUNITY spirited children in Saddleworth are helping residents see the light in a bid to beat burglars.
Saddleworth South PCSO Wayne Turley invited pupils from five primary schools to design posters encouraging homeowners to leave on a light during longer hours of darkness.
Hundreds of eye-catching posters were judged by a panel of residents from Wood Square, Chew Vale and Riverside House, and printers Taylor and Clifton, Uppermill.
Judges declared such a high standard that they have selected a winner from each participating school, rather than just one overall winner.
Taylor and Clifton printed 1,000 stickers free of charge — 200 of each winning poster — to be placed on wheelie bins to remind them of the message.
At St Anne’s Lydgate, Isabella Davey from Year 5 won with her eye-catching drawing.
Friezland Primary School Year 6 pupil Millie Meredith had her design chosen to be made into stickers.
Jonas Viella, a Year 4/5 pupil at St Chad’s Uppermill, was the first person to put the sticker on his bin after his catchy “Don’t let the thief give you grief” slogan impressed the judges.
At St Mary’s Primary Greenfield, Year 5 pupils Joshua Nixon, Ania Bielecki, Maddie Leadbeater and Sam Howard teamed up to create a poster complete with fierce guard dog.
And Greenfield Primary School, Year 5 pupil Ruby McConkie was the winner for her blunt message: ‘If you go out at night, turn on a light’.
PCSO Lee Lockwood delivered the stickers and winning posters to the schools and was helped with the competition by colleague, PSCO Lorna Conway.
He said: “The children love designing the posters and came up with some really great ideas.”
