HARDY fundraisers made Saddleworth’s first Santa Dash a success despite the weather.
Over 90 people dressed in colourful Santa outfits to tackle the tough, two-tier course. The happy Santas, some with young children, helped to boost support for Saddleworth Round Table’s old folks Christmas party and other charities.
Matthew Sykes, Round Table chairman, said: “The Santas have been marvellous — they’re all heroes.
“We actually thought the horrific weather would keep entrants away and we forecast only 50 would enter. But 93 turned up out of 127 who registered - a terrific result.”
Fellow Round Table member Dave Wood said: “The Santa Dash has been a great success and will certainly be part of our Christmas schedule next year. We’d like to thank everyone for their support.”
Rachel Roberts, who completed the 5k course and proudly wore her ribboned participation medal, said: “There was a great Christmas spirit with everyone determined to take part and finish. I’ll be back next year.”
