Labour candidate Jim McMahon.
TOMORROW, is an important day for Chadderton, Hollinwood, Oldham and Royton.
I believe the outcome will make a huge difference to the future of our town.
I left school at 16 and have worked hard to support my family. I live here and raise my kids here and I want to ensure that they have the opportunities that I missed out on. I want them to be proud of where they come from. For me, this election is personal. I want what is best for my family and for yours.
I’m happy to be judged on my record as leader of the council and confident that the work that has started will continue whatever the result. I’m looking forward to the opening of the Old Town Hall cinema and the M&S development. I think Oldham deserves a cinema and I’m proud of being part of making it happen.
But there is much more to do. It is clear that the biggest challenge our town faces is as a result of Tory cuts. Police numbers have been slashed and the NHS is in crisis. Labour forced a stop to tax credit cuts, but the Tory alternative will still hit the incomes of thousands of people here in Oldham.
My vision for the future is to make Oldham a leading town again, a place to be proud of and where all our kids will have a good life ahead of them.
I believe I can make that happen and I ask for your support tomorrow.
