CONSERVATIVE by-election candidate James Daly has welcomed the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement and Spending Review, which will “directly benefit the hard-working taxpayers of Oldham West and Royton”.
The statement outlined a series of measures which could help thousands in the constituency. Included in the package is £400 million of investment for the Northern Powerhouse, which will help smaller businesses, £250 million for a national pothole fund, funding flexibility for Greater Manchester Police and a £200 million upgrade to sections of the M60 motorway.
Mr Daly said: “This Autumn Statement delivers on the promise we made to working people in Oldham, Chadderton and Royton. A promise that will enable everyone in our community to benefit from the economic boost that the Northern Powerhouse will help to bring about to the area which has been let down by Labour for so many years.
“Residents have also told me of their concerns about potholes and congestion on the roads. As part of my three-point plan I am campaigning for better public transport and more investment, so I am delighted that more money will be available to solve these problems.
“We also need to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour so residents can feel safe in their own homes, so it is great news that the Chancellor has announced he will be protecting police funding in real terms.”
