Emmaus Mossley fund raising event
TERRY Waite is helping to host a trip down memory lane for Emmaus Mossley.
Terry, a former church envoy who was held hostage in Beirut for five years in the 1980s and 90s, will be at the charity’s “Memory Lane” fundraising event on Thursday.
Mr Waite will be presenting a talk during the evening which will also see the opening of a new cafe area, an auction, vintage and Mossley heritage displays, a magician and live music.
There will also be a chance to buy collectibles and rare vintage items not normally on the shop floor of the Longlands Mill second-hand superstore.
Finds include furniture, clothes, collectibles, items from the 50s, 60s and 70s, musical instruments, vintage tools as well as art and upcycled goods.
Hazel Hodkinson, shop manager at Emmaus Mossley, said: “As with our previous evening events, we have been saving up our most weird, wonderful and interesting items.
“From stuffed sewing boxes, family photo albums and vinyl music collections to vintage dressers, solid oak tables and stylish furniture from the 60s and 70s — Emmaus Mossley sees it all. Putting these items on display and out for sale on one evening event will hopefully give everyone a chance of finding that unique pre-loved item to purchase and treasure.”
Companions — formerly homeless people who live and work at Emmaus — staff and volunteers handpick the best vintage items and create unique displays to show off what Emmaus Mossley has to offer.
Dennis Morton, companion at Emmaus Mossley, said: “I’m really looking forward to getting involved on the night and meeting old and new supporters of Emmaus.
“I’ve met Terry Waite a few times and it will be nice to welcome him back to our community and have a catch up.”
Emmaus Mossley is one of 25 Emmaus communities across the UK. Emmaus supports formerly homeless people by giving them a home, meaningful work in a social enterprise and an opportunity to regain lost self-esteem to help rebuild their lives.
The Memory Lane event will take place from 6pm.
