Team blazes a new trail

TRAILBLAZING footballers from Chadderton laced up their boots for their first away game.
Players from Chadderton Park cerebral palsy team lined up against Cerebral Palsy United for the match at the Carrington sports complex.
No scores were kept but Chadderton Park Sports Club secretary Craig Simpson said: “There were lots of goals for all to enjoy”
The Chadderton team — one of only a few in the North-West — was set up last year and attracts players from as far away as Scunthorpe, Blackpool and Stoke.
They train fortnightly at Oldham Academy North, Royton, and this year some got the chance to watch Brazil take on USA in the cerebral palsy football world championships in Burton on Trent.
Chadderton’s first away match has already proved a hit on social media and Craig added: “It could well be the start of something big throughout the country.
“We have already inspired clubs in Newbridge and Stafford to start their own cerebral palsy teams so that all children can play the game that we all love.
“Boys and girls with cerebral palsy are invited to come along and join us. With or without frames, everyone is welcome.”
