Memories light up the lake

BRIGHTLY coloured floating flowers illuminated an otherwise wet and windy Alexandra Park as part of a service of remembrance.
Organised by Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, the Lights on the Lake event was the hospice’s first multi-faith service in memory of those who had passed away.
Despite the torrential rain on Saturday, dozens of people gathered at the park’s boating lake to release the colourful flowers on to the water.
Ministers from a variety of faiths and a non-religious speaker also spoke during the service, which featured readings and prayers.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Oldham, councillors Ateeque Ur-Rehman and Yasmin Toor, also released lights, along with Lisa Pearson, income generation manager at the Royton hospice, and Father Phillip Sumner, executive officer of the Oldham Interfaith Forum, which has been working with the hospice to organise the event.
