CHADDERTON boxing star Anthony Crolla proved a knockout attraction for charity.

He attended a charity car-wash event organised by Peugeot Dealership, RRG Oldham, that raised over £1,100 for BBC Children in Need.

Crolla faces Darleys Perez in a rematch for the WBA Lightweight crown at Manchester Arena on November 21 and took time out from his training schedule to be a special guest. He was joined by the Mayor of Oldham, Ateeque Ur-Rehman, Chaddy the Owl, the official mascot of Oldham Athletic Football Club, and Pudsey Bear.

Oldhamers attended the Manchester Road Dealership to have their cars turned squeaky clean by an army of sponge wielding staff for a donation to Children in Need.

An array of other exciting activities on the day included a free face painter, colouring competition, games and prizes, which were given out throughout the day.

Johnathan Taylor, Dealer Principal, said: “Everyone was really keen to get involved on Saturday and the team is delighted to have raised such a large amount for a great charity. It was wonderful to see the team getting sudsey with Pudsey!

“The Dealership was a hive of activity throughout the day and a huge thanks must go to the people of Oldham for getting involved and bringing their cars down to raise money for such a fantastic cause.”

The Peugeot and BBC Children in Need partnership has spanned three years, with the car manufacturer raising over £1 million for the charity to date.

Neil Moscrop, Peugeot UK Brand Director, said: “Our BBC Children in Need car washes have always been received so well on a local level in recent years and Saturday’s event was no exception, it was a fantastic day that was well and truly enjoyed by all.

“After breaking through the £1 million barrier last year, the team is even more motivated to keep pushing for donations and the generosity of the Oldham public has really helped to support such the cause by raising a brilliant amount.”
