Man looked up woman’s skirt

A CHADDERTON man who sneaked up behind a married woman and looked up her skirt has been jailed for 20 weeks by Manchester magistrates.

Self-employed Paul Mellor (40) was criticised by district judge Mark Hadfield for not admitting his guilt until the day of the trial.

“This woman suffered a further ordeal thinking she would have to give evidence — what you did was very serious indeed,” said the judge.

The court heard how 10 years ago, Mellor had committed a similar offence in a city store. That time he had received a community penalty. “That doesn’t seem to have helped,” said the judge.

Father-of-two Mellor, of Haigh Lane, pleaded guilty to outraging public decency.

He was ordered to pay £320 in compensation and costs.

Prosecutor Gareth Hughes said the woman had suspected she was being followed to the Manchester Central car park. At the ticket machine she looked round and saw Mellor crouching on the floor.

CCTV images led to Mellor’s arrest.

Mellor claimed he had been looking for his bank card.
