Merseyside officer is new GM police deputy

NEW role . . . Ian Pilling
GREATER Manchester Police’s new deputy chief constable is Ian Pilling.
The assistant chief constable of Merseyside Police was successful following the promotion of former GM assistant chief Ian Hopkins to chief, replacing the retiring Sir Peter Fahy.
Mr Hopkins said: “I’m delighted to be able to appoint Ian Pilling. He has extensive operational policing experience in three forces. Ian will be a strong addition to my team and will help me lead Greater Manchester Police through the very challenging times we face.”
Mr Pilling was born in Wigan and began his police career in Blackpool. He is responsible for local policing and criminal justice issues for thr Merseyside force, and is the national police lead for vulnerable adults.
He said: “I don’t underestimate the challenges ahead. I know we can find a way forward if the police, partners and public pull together.”
