Bridge gets wash and brush up

WORK in progress over the weekend
AN eyesore bridge seen by thousands of drivers every day has been given a makeover.
Over the weekend workers repaired and clean the Union Street West footbridge at Oldham Way. The £900,000 bridge was built in 1999 but its glass panels cracked due to its natural movement and vandalism. The broken sections were boarded over due to the expense of replacing the glass. Railings have now been installed instead.
Oldham Way was closed from 7pm on Saturday to 5am this morning for the work. Oldham Council had the option to close bypass again this weekend if work needed to be finished off, but said this was unlikely to happen.
