Bouncers boss in health and safety breaches

THE director of a soft play centre at which a three-year-old girl broke her elbow has pleaded guilty to seven health and safety breaches.

A boy also injured himself when he fell out of a bouncy castle on to concrete at Bouncers Play Ltd in Diggle, Oldham magistrates heard.

Director Paul Willis was prosecuted by Oldham Council after a health and safety officer visited the centre at Wharf Mill on August 6 following complaints.

Carol Curtin, prosecuting, said the officer found several heath and safety breaches including an exposed metal frame on a trampoline, exposed plastic ties repairing a broken climbing frame and a gap around a bouncy castle, filled with rubbish.

Bouncers also failed to inform the council when a three year old girl broke her elbow.

Magistrates heard that prior to this investigation, advice had been given to the centre on a number of occasions.

Willis, who represented himself, confirmed that Bouncers had closed in March. Another soft play area run by him in Tameside is also no longer operating. The case was adjourned until November 11.
